December, 2019

Happy Holidays!

2019 was another great year for Cuttyhunk Yacht Club, thanks to the continued support of our Members, Volunteers, and Staff! Read about some of "what's happening at CYC" below!

2019 in Review

  • 129 children between the ages of 6-16 attended classes at CYC

  • About 15-20 adults participated in Adult Lessons throughout the summer

  • We added 2 new sailboats RS Zests to the fleet

  • Our fleet is now comprised of 2 Zests, 6 Lasers, 6 420s, 10 N10s, 2 typhoons, and 2 power boats

  • We employed 5 full-time, trained instructors and offered part-time employment and training to 8 Junior Instructors

  • As is usual the CYC is financially sound, with another "break even year" in 2019

  • Revenues come from equal parts membership, class registrations, and boutique sales

  • Expenses were driven mainly by insurance, instructor salaries, equipment maintenance, and repairs

Membership in 2020

We recently changed our fiscal year to match the calendar year. This morning an automated email accidentally went out, reminding you to renew your membership. We have been updating our website and were not planning to take renewals just yet. Some of you did renew, and thanks, your payment and renewal was successful! For everyone else, we will let you know when we are "open for business." Thanks for your understanding!

Instructors and Training

Many thanks to our amazing instructor team in 2019, Ben, Cecilia, Aiden, Elsa, and Grazi! Reminder to all current, future, and potential instructors, the winter and spring is a great time to get certified and trained. CPR, US Sailing Level 1, and NASBLA boating safety are all courses we require for employment! Check your local rec center, adult ed, and US Sailing website for class times and locations.

Awards

We are still missing a number of awards from previous summers. If you have an award to return or never received your award, please let us know! Contact commodore@cuttyhunkyachtclub.org

Typhoons

In 2019 a small team of volunteers spent some time working on Gusto. In summer 2020 we will be dedicating the same attention to Sea Robin. The Typhoons are enjoyed by many members, but require time and attention to keep them well maintained. If you want to get involved with the effort to restore and maintain Sea Robin and Gusto, labor, expertise, and funds are always required. Please contact commodore@cuttyhunkyachtclub.com

Boutique Update

We can't thank Jen enough for her dedication to our CYC boutique. Many hours -- and coffees -- go into keeping it running strong all summer long. Jen is always open to ideas and suggestions for the products (and designs) you want, please email commodore@cuttyhunkyachtclub.com with ideas and we will connect you with our Boutique Manager Jen!

Septic Update

CYC will be installing a new septic system at the clubhouse this coming spring. Thanks to the insight of generations before us, we have the savings to make this important, significant investment in the future of CYC. More news on this in months to come.
