CYC sailing class sessions are organized into groups by age, but also based on experience and skill.
This summer we are operating on a slightly different way due to COVID-19. You can read the details of our plan here.
Our classes will be broken in to the following levels:
Equivalent Group: C-Group through beginning B-Group
Beginner: Build on boat handling skills and become a more confident sailor; includes improving tacks, gybes, discussion of points of sail and sail trim, de-powering your boat, and getting out of irons through on and off the water games.
Skill Level: Comfortable sailing an N-10 in light to moderate wind with a parent or friend(s).
Equivalent Group: Mid to upper B-Group, beginning A-Group
Intermediate: Improve boat handling skills, introduction to racing rules, tactics, and courses; includes on the water games and racing.
Skill Level: Comfortable sailing zests or lasers in moderate to heavy wind.
Equivalent Group: Upper A Group
Advanced: Building upon existing knowledge to prepare for regatta level racing; includes boat handling and racing drills, rules and tactics discussions, trapping, spinnaker work, and racing.
Skill Level: Comfortable sailing 420s or Lasers in most conditions.

The typical age ranges for the groups are:
• 12-16 years old
• Very comfortable solo'ing boats
• Some racing experience
• 9-11 years old
• Has experience sailing, can skipper a boat
• 6-8 years old
• New to sailing
